India's artificial satellite was named Aryabhata.  The name was named after a famous astronomer and mathematician of our country.  This 360 kg satellite was launched in April 1975.  Aryabhata invented zero.  He has written a verse in his book that-

 One hundred and seventy thousand centuries Ayuttaniyut and Prayutam.

 That is, “In each, Das, Shat, Sahasra, Ayut, Neyut, Prayut, Koti, Arbuda and Brind, each is ten times the previous place from the previous one.  In other words, as soon as a zero is placed before a number, its value increases by 10 times. ' 

 ( भारत के प्रथम कृत्रिम उपग्रह का नाम आर्यभट्‍ट रखा गया था। यह नाम हमारे देश के एक प्रसिद्ध खगोलशास्त्री और गणितज्ञ के नाम पर रखा गया था। 360 किलो का यह उपग्रह अप्रैल 1975 में छोड़ा गया था। आर्यभट्ट ने शून्य का आविष्कार किया. उन्होंने अपने ग्रन्थ में एक श्लोक लिखा है कि-

 एकं च दश च शतं च सहस्रं तु अयुतनियुते तथा प्रयुतम्.

 कोट्यर्बुदं च वृन्दं स्थानात्स्थानं दशगुणं स्यात् ॥ २ ॥

 अर्थात “एक, दश, शत, सहस्र, अयुत, नियुत, प्रयुत, कोटि, अर्बुद तथा बृन्द में प्रत्येक पिछले स्थान वाले से अगले स्थान वाला दस गुना है. अन्य शब्दों में कहे तो किसी संख्या के आगे शुन्य लगाते ही उसका मान 10 गुना बढ़ जाता हैं.’ )
